Conductivity Controller
CS1U – Cooling Tower Conductivity Controller with carbon conductivity probe.
This controller offers conductivity and water meter-based control of cooling tower water, control of corrosion/scale inhibitor feed and is supplied with a temperature compensated carbon electrode with a cell constant of 1.0. and temperature compensation from 5°C - 80°C The controller is a microprocessor driven industrial type with on/off control outputs.

Solenoid Valve
Allows specified amount of high TDS water to be purged from the system via the blow-down method.

Blow-down
The water that is drained from cooling equipment to remove mineral build-up is called “blow-down” water. The cooling equipment that requires blow-down is most often: cooling towers, evaporative condensers, evaporative coolers, evaporative cooled air-conditioners, and central boilers (both steam and hot water). These cooling systems rely on water evaporation to garner the cooling effect (latent heat of evaporation). As the water evaporates, the mineral content (calcium carbonate, magnesium, sodium, salts, etc) of the remaining water increases in concentration of minerals. If left undiluted, these minerals will cause scaling on equipment surfaces; possibly damaging the system.

Timer
PDFA Pulse controlled interval timer with LED indication for relay on and power on with adjustable knob for precise control. Timer set to regulate water treatment chemical injection cycles.

Required Calculations
    1.     Total Water in System.
    2.     Make-up water added to the system during the month.
    3.     Reticulation flow rate in cubic meters per hour.
    4.     Temperature drop across the cooling tower in degrees Celsius.

Dosing Chemicals
ScaleAwayA912TM is a phosphonate/polymer/surfactant/biocide blend designed to reduce corrosion, scale formation and fouling in cooling water systems.

Chelating Agents
The phosphonates in ScaleAwayA912TM are effective chelating agents, that bind tightly to di- and trivalent metal ions, which prevent formation of insoluble precipitates (scale). The binding of these ligands also suppresses the catalytic properties of metal ions. These phosphonates are also stable under harsh conditions which is important in cooling waters to inhibit scale formation. The phosphonates in cooling water systems also serve to control corrosion of iron and steel.

Surfactants
The surfactant compounds in ScaleAwayA912TM lowers the surface tension between the phosphonic chelating agent and the fouling compounds to create a wetting agent to aid in dispersing the precipitated calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate ions solids from the pipe reticulation to the sump of the cooling tower. These fouling solids are removed from the cooling tower sump during the monthly blow-down schedule.

Biocides
The biocides added to ScaleAwayA912TM protects against biological infestation and growth which acts as an algaecide, protecting the water from infestation and growth of algae. These biocides deter, render harmless and exert a controlling effect on any harmful organism by chemical means and are also employed as an anti-fouling agent and disinfectant for your process water system.

Explanation of Conductivity
Conductivity (or specific conductance) of water is a measure of its ability to conduct electricity. The SI unit of conductivity is siemens per meter (S/m). Conductivity measurements are used routinely in many industrial and environmental applications as a fast, inexpensive and reliable way of measuring the ionic content in water. For example, the measurement of water conductivity is a typical way to monitor and continuously trend the performance of water purification systems. Conductivity is linked directly to the total dissolved solids (T.D.S).
